Resume summary examples that say something

A good summary is a title, a proof and a direction, in under 70 words. Here are ten real-world patterns, plus objectives for people starting out and headlines to go under your name.

Write yours with AI

Uses only what you typed. Nothing is saved on our side.

The AI won’t invent numbers. It leaves [brackets] where one would help.

The formula

[Title] with [years] in [field/context]. [Biggest result with a number]. [What you want or what you’re known for].

Each example above follows it. Specific nouns (“32-bed med-surg unit”, “$600K budget”) do more work than adjectives (“dedicated”, “results-driven”). If a sentence could appear on anyone’s resume, cut it.

Resume objective examples

Use an objective instead of a summary when you don’t yet have directly relevant experience.

Put your summary into the resume builder, where the AI can also draft one from your experience.

Questions people ask

What is a professional summary on a resume?

Two to four sentences at the top of the page that say who you are professionally, your strongest proof and what you want next. It replaces the old “objective” for anyone with experience.

Summary vs objective: which should I use?

Use a summary if you have relevant experience; it is about what you offer. Use an objective if you are a student, graduate, changing careers or returning to work; it explains what you are aiming for and why you fit.

How long should a resume summary be?

40 to 70 words, or two to four lines. Anything longer gets skipped.

Should a resume summary be in first person?

Write it in implied first person: drop “I” and “my” and start with your title or a strong adjective. “Registered nurse with five years…” rather than “I am a registered nurse…”.

What is a resume headline?

A single line under your name, like a LinkedIn headline, stating your target title and top two or three qualifications. It is optional, but useful for ATS keyword matching and for a recruiter’s first glance.
